What is Pressure Washing?
Pressure washing or power washing is the use of high-pressure water spray to remove loose paint, mold, grime, dust, mud, chewing gum and dirt from surfaces and objects such as buildings, vehicles and concrete surfaces. The volume of a mechanical pressure washer is expressed in gallons or liters per minute, often designed into the pump and not variable. The pressure, expressed in pounds per square inch, pascals, or bar, is designed into the pump but can be varied by adjusting the unloader valve. Machines that produce pressures from 750 to 30,000 psi (5 to 200 MPa) or more are available.
The terms pressure washing and power washing are used interchangeably in many scenarios, and there is some debate as to whether they are actually different processes.
A pressure washing surface cleaner is a tool consisting of two to four high-pressure jets on a rotating bar that swivels when water is flowing. This action creates a uniformed cleaning pattern that can clean flat surfaces at a rapid rate.
If you are a residential property owner, then you know full well how much work and care goes into keeping your home running smoothly and looking its best. You most likely have a running and well-ordered list of all that needs to be done around your home, separating that which can be done on your own and that which needs to be completed by a professional. Oftentimes we tend to focus on cleaning and maintaining the areas in which we spend the most time or use most frequently for entertaining purposes, and keeping a steady eye on the cleanliness of the interior of your home is a logical way to preserve your belongings and better enjoy your investment. However, tending to the cleaning needs of your home’s exterior is just as crucial as the upkeep of your indoor space.
You want your home’s surface to look clean and well kept, your landscaping to remain fresh and free of weeds. But, do you ever contemplate any necessary care beyond that? We urge you to do so! When you stop to consider that the driveway takes up half of your front yard, it’s a fairly easy choice to decide that it’s something that needs to be kept clean, as well. From stains and residue related to your vehicles to the many spills that come from getting in and out of the car or walking up and down the sidewalk, there is a plethora of deep seated dirt and grime that news exists on these hard surfaces. Whether your driveway and sidewalk is made of concrete, stone, or any other similar material, our three-step surface cleaning method and state of the art equipment work together to ensure that your property will be thoroughly clean in an extremely time-efficient manner!
We are very careful and intentional in bringing a whole new level of clean to those pieces of your residential property that typically go undetected for far too long. Do you remember just how beautiful your home once looked when you first pulled up to it years ago? Perhaps you built your home from the ground up and had that vision in your head of just how fresh and well-manicured everything would look when anyone drove by. However, over time, that curb appeal often loses its luster when the daily grind sets in and priorities are placed on other issues.
We know that residential property owners want to keep their driveway, patios, decks and sidewalks in pristine condition but lack the time and resources to make it happen. That is where we come in! Our pressure washing services will restore the long forgotten beauty to your yard and provide a clean and welcoming surface for your family and many visitors.
Is Power Washing the Same as Pressure Washing?
The main difference between pressure washing and power washing is the heat. To be more explicit, the jet wash in a power washing machine uses heated water, whereas the water in a pressure washer is not heated.
The advantage of a power washer’s heated water is felt most clearly in tough to clean spaces with serious grime, especially mildew, salt, and grease. The heated water makes it easier to clean surfaces – just as it does when doing dishes or washing your hands – and as such, the power washer is essentially as the more heavy-duty machine. It can more easily scrub spaces clean, and is therefore the preferred option for jobs that require a higher level of cleaning, or may begin in a more serious state of dirt, grime, or grease. It is particularly recommended on surfaces such as concrete, which will not be damaged by power washing.
Is Pressure Washing Necessary?
In the right hands, pressure washing can be incredibly beneficial to your home.
- When used at the proper levels, pressure washing can clean your house of grime, bird droppings, and unsightly stains. This improves curb appeal, and also just makes you happy to come home to your beautiful home.
- When done right, pressure washing is a valuable part of home maintenance that keeps your home in tip-top shape while preventing bigger problems down the road.
- Pressure washing removes mold and mildew, which are damaging to both your home and the health of your family. When mildew and mold go unchecked, they continue to grow — and mold can grow within walls, meaning your home’s interior could be affected.
- When done by a professional, pressure washing is a valuable step in preparing your home’s surfaces to be repainted.
In addition to cleaning the exterior of your house and preparing it for painting, pressure washing is excellent for decks and railings at low pressure; wood and vinyl fences at medium pressure; asphalt at medium pressure; and concrete driveways, metal patio furniture, and stone at high pressure.
Pressure washing is valuable, but only when done properly. To do it right, you have to have a knowledge of how it affects different materials, how those materials react to pressure, what to do in unexpected scenarios, and more.
